At Gentle Family Dentistry, we are concerned about your overall health in addition to your teeth. For this reason, we perform oral cancer screening during every routine exam. Our hygienists and dentist will examine your gums and soft tissue, including the cheek lining, lips, tongue, and the floor and roof of the mouth. Early detection is essential in beating this disease, so schedule your routine visits with us.
Fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in many foods and water. Fluoride reverses early tooth decay and re-mineralizes your tooth enamel. Our dentist and hygienists can give you a fluoride treatment during your routine dental exam or cleaning. These treatments take less than five minutes and are suitable for both our pediatric patients as well as our adult patients.
Brushing and flossing can go a long way in protecting your smile, however, they are not always enough on their own. Dental sealants are a thin, protective coating that is applied to the chewing surface of your teeth to protect the pits and grooves from decay. The treatment itself is fast and painless and Dr. Bottone can usually finish the procedure in a single visit.
Laser periodontal therapy is a revolutionary dental procedure that utilizes laser technology to help assist in treating periodontal disease and gingivitis. It works by using a specialized laser that emits a concentrated beam of light energy, to remove bacteria from the pockets of the teeth.
Periodontal disease or 'gum' disease is an infection of the gums which gradually destroys the supporting structure of the teeth. When this happens, we will do a procedure called scaling and root- planing or a 'deep' cleaning. This procedure eliminates calculus (hardened minerals) and biofilm that can adhere to your teeth and cause infection. Root planing removes calculus that has attached to the root and creates a smooth root surface.
The surrounding tissue can then re-attach to the tooth. This procedure may take several appointments.
